02.Part Layout of Multi-Cavity Mold

There  are two basic types of multi-cavity mold:

  • a same part with repeat number of cavitation in one  mold;
  • Several parts with a similar size and a same resin were molded in one mold,  It’s desired that all the plastic parts must be similar in shape, volume, and flow length(these parts form a component of finished product usually, such as top and bottom cover, left bracket and right bracket, …),  individual core and cavity or  individual inserts  for each plastic part was suggested in most case.

One of the key principle to building a successful family mold was balance( Moldflow analysis can help a lot here when deciding the part pitch & configuration, runner length & size, gate size), the ultimate goal should be a  balanced plastics filling, that was , the mold filling should completed at the same time at all the cavity).

 1. The balanced layout

2.Try to shorten the runner length to decrease the runner regrind,cycle times and heat loss.
 3.The No. of cavity should be no less than 4 for high accuracy part.
 4.The larger part has shortest runner length.

 5.It’s desired to level the parting line when the height of two parts varies a lot.

 6.Layouting smaller part wisely to get a compact mold size.

 7.Better machinability.
